Doing more in difficult Times

editor-picIt’s no secret that local and state governments are under tremendous budget pressures throughout our state and country. Weak housing markets, lower tax collections, reduced consumer spending, increased fuel costs, additional educational demands and rising health care costs are causing many governments to buckle. What I believe is most important is how our state and local governmental bodies are handling these difficult times. As an economic development identity, I thought it might be appropriate to provide some comments concerning these events.

Just like investing, the best time to seek new investments is during these down times. Now is the best time to help our local companies become more efficient and if possible to increase their market share. These were the messages presented to the Wilson County Human Resource Association and the Wilson County Existing Industry meetings in June as we discussed new programs/opportunities in training and assistance. The ole adage of "if you wait for the robins, spring will be over” is relevant today.

Nissan North America Signs Lease

Providence West Medical Plaza

Construction of the Providence West Medical Plaza I is in full swing in Mt. Juliet. According to Will Tyner, project manager for the medical office building, the building exterior is close to completion and interior build-out work on tenant spaces has begun. The 15,000 square foot facility is now 80% leased and is expected to open in November of 2009.

JECDB Hosts Existing Industry Appreciation Luncheon

The JECDB hosted a luncheon for our existing industry’s to say THANK YOU for being in Wilson County and being a part of our community. This also gave those in attendance the opportunity to network with others who attended. Industries represented in the photo are: PFG, Genesee A&B, Custom Packaging , Environmental Science, Vulcan Materials, Steed Brothers, and Builders FirstSource.
